About the library

The National library considers its public mission the following:

• assistance to science, culture, education development and other development of fields of society.
• providing free and equal access to domestic and world information resources.
• development of national independent information area.
• keeping the national documentary heritage of Kyrgyzstan.

The national Library fulfils the following tasks:

• purchases and keeps full editions of native documents and extraterritorial publishing concerning Kyrgyzstan and provide access to them.
• provides forming and using the universal fund of native and foreign publishing that are necessary for development of nationality, different fields of society, science, culture and education of the Republic based on exhaustive acquisition and perpetuity of keeping.
• provides constant storage, restoration and safety of library’s funds.
• helps to search and purchase Kyrgyz books and manuscripts within the country and abroad.
• provides scientific treatment and development of library funds by means of system of catalogues and card files in different supporters.
• provides creation of republic exchange and reserve funds, organization and redistribution of little used literature.
• provides depository storage of literature that has scientific, technical and cultural valuation.
• provides informational and bibliographic service of Kyrgyz readers who live abroad.
• the national library is the center of national bibliography which keeps full current and retrospective information on domestic and foreign publishing about the republic, makes and notes the summary catalogue “Kyrgyzstan”.
• provides creation automatic information system in the country.
• holds social and marketing research connected to all aspects of libraries’ activity.
• implements international library service and cooperation, operates as the republic center of international book exchange and library loan.
• helps to work out and to implement state policy in the field of development of library science.
• organizes professional development trainings of library’s employees, participates in the system of continual education.

In 1972 she graduated from internal postgraduate study in Moscow state university of culture (department of branch bibliography).

1992-2000. Expert of Kyrgyz Parliament (Jogorku Kenesh) on International relations, adviser to the Chairman of the Palace of People representatives of Jogorku Kenesh.

1999-2004. head of television and radio journalism chair of KNU, then as Dean of the Journalism faculty.

2003. Pro-rector of Diplomacy Academy under the Ministry of Foreign affairs of KR.

May-July, 2005. Expert of the Commission for State rewards of Presidential Administration of KR.

July, 2005. Director of Public Fund of TeachEX (USAID) pluralistically with expertise of the Project ‘Industrial reinforcement and building of abilities for sustainable development in Kyrgyzstan’.

Nov., 14, 2005. General Director of National Library of Kyrgyz Republic.

J.Bakashova is the Authoress and leader of research Project “Studies of ancient diplomatic relations of Kyrgyz’s”. Published 5 monographs, more than 30 scientific articles, edited about 40 scientific-popular issues.

J.Bakashova is well-known in CIA countries, her scientific proceedings were published in Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine.
